0.80 lots and 1.45 lots are cash numbers, not styles
Gold at 1.00 lot is about $10 per pip if a pip is a 0.10 price move, or $100 per $1. A 50-pip stop at 0.80 lots is 0.80 times 50 times $10, which is $400. A 70-pip stop at 1.45 lots is 1.45 times 70 times $10, which is $1,015. The first figure sits inside a 0.35% to 0.65% risk band on $100,000. The second figure sits above it. Treat $1,015 as a ceiling you almost never use, not as the normal click.
Two positions at the ceiling are about $2,030, and they are usually the same trade. Bot controls should see XAUUSD and any correlated metal as one budget. A $5,000 day divided by $1,015 is fewer than five full losses. That is not seven. The safer unit remains closer to $500, which is 1.00 lot on a 50-pip stop or 0.80 lots on a stop a little wider.
The open wick is a fill problem, not a signal problem
The COMEX metals open can print a wick that runs 30 to 80 pips through a level that looked structural a minute earlier. If your 50-pip stop becomes an 80-pip fill, 0.80 lots costs $640 instead of $400. At 1.45 lots the same extension is about $1,160 on a 80-pip fill. There is no news blackout to void that fill. CPI and the metals open can even arrive as cousins in the same hour.
Wait for the wick to finish if your plan depends on a structural stop. Entering the first spike because "gold is moving" is how the lot cap gets tested on its worst tick. Register with Venasri and store 0.80 lots as the default, with 1.45 as a hard reject unless the stop is short enough to keep cash under $650.
A gold outlier can freeze the month
The Edge Score, from 50 toward 90 or higher, is sensitive to one loss that dwarfs your recent tickets. A $1,015 loser is inside the $5,000 day and can still be that outlier. The multiplier can stall for a month, which is a harsher clock than the 2-week pause attached to a $10,000 stage hole. Gold is where both clocks get started, because the lot looks modest next to a forex habit of several lots.
Weekend holding is fully permitted. A 40-pip Sunday gap on 1.45 lots is about $580, more than a planned 0.80 lot idea, and it counts at the reopen. Cut the lot on Friday or flatten. Triple financing midweek on a large metal hold is another quiet debit. The 20-day minimum means you will see several COMEX opens. You only need to survive them at one size.
Flatten the book at $4,250 even if the wick is "not finished"
Equity Guard at $4,250, 4.25% of $100,000, does not care that the COMEX wick might reverse. If equity loss tags that level, the book is flat and the remaining $750 before $5,000 stays unused. A trader who disables the guard "only for the open" is volunteering the official line as the stop.
After a scale, rebuild the lot from the new balance. The 0.80 to 1.45 band is a $100,000 statement. On $200,000 the same percentages are different lots, and on $50,000 1.45 lots is a different profession. Expert Advisors may trade gold. They may not keep a hardcoded 1.45 when the account size changes or when the stop widens past 70 pips.
