0.80 to 1.45 lots is a cash cap, not a preference
At $10 per 0.10 move on 1.00 lot, 0.80 lots with a 50-pip stop risk $400. The same lots with a 70-pip stop risk $560. At 1.45 lots those stops risk $725 and $1,015. On a $100,000 account that is about 0.40% to 1.02%. The top of the cap is already above a strict 0.65% band, so 1.45 lots belongs only with the tighter stop and only if you are not also holding Bitcoin. Stacking them is how a gold cap and a crypto cap become one $4,000 day.
Breakout core liquidity is crypto perpetuals. If XAUUSD is on the terminal you use, these are the limits that keep a metals ticket from eating the crypto daily line. If it is not on your login, do not invent the position on a side broker and pretend the 4% line is unaware. Equity is equity. Bot controls should cap gold at 1.45 lots and at $1,015 of planned risk, whichever binds first.
The $35 range is the accident, the 70-pip stop is the plan
A $35 move is 350 pips if the pip is 0.10. One standard lot through that range costs $3,500. That already consumes most of a $4,000 2-step day and more than all of a $3,000 1-step day. At 1.45 lots the same range is about $5,075, through the 4% line with room to spare. The 50 to 70 pip stop is what keeps the planned loss inside $400 to $1,015. A gap through the stop on the COMEX open is the scenario the lot cap is trying to make survivable.
If the open slips 150 pips past a 70-pip stop, 1.45 lots costs about $2,175 extra on top of the planned stop, and the total is near $3,200. You are still inside $4,000, barely, and you have no second ticket. At 2.00 lots you would not be. The cap is the difference. Do not round 1.45 up to 2.00 because the ticket entry feels cleaner.
Gold has a session even when Breakout does not
The crypto book is 24/7. Gold still does its worst work around the COMEX open and around US data. Breakout will not ban the data print. A gold stop slipped during CPI counts immediately against the 4% day, the same as a Bitcoin stop. If you trade both, you have two instruments that react to the same dollar headline. That is one bet. Cut one of them to flat before the number.
Daily loss resets at 00:00 UTC from day-start balance, which may not be the gold session you care about. A runner held from the US afternoon into that snapshot does not ratchet the next day the way a higher-of-equity FX rule would. It can still gap. Open a Venasri account and decide, before the US close, whether the gold lot is a day trade or a hold you have sized for a gap.
The guard is the backstop when the pip math fails
Equity Guard at about $3,250 on a $100,000 2-step account will flatten gold and crypto together. That is what you want. A gold-only stop that fails to trigger during a spread blowout should not leave BTC open beside it. On 1-step the guard sits nearer $2,250 because the day is $3,000 and a $35 range on 1.00 lot is already $3,500, larger than the day. The 1-step gold cap should be lower than 1.45 lots, closer to 0.80, or the range itself is fatal.
Static 8% maximum loss, $8,000, is not the relevant line for a single gold open. The day will break first. Trade the 50 to 70 pip structure, bank the partials, and let the guard be the unplanned exit. A strategy that needs a $35 stop is not a Breakout gold strategy. It is a request to spend the daily line on one candle.
