Checkout sliders versus a floor that does not move
FTMO 2-Step is a fixed contract: 5% daily, 10% static max, 10% then 5% targets, four days, $540. E8 Classic is a build-your-own contract: 5% daily from day-start balance plus floating PnL at 00:00 server time, static maximum you choose between 8% and 14%, Phase 1 at 8%, Phase 2 at 4%, and a one-day minimum. E8 One (the 1-step) uses 4% daily and a 6% end-of-day trailing maximum. If you compare E8 One to FTMO 2-Step you are comparing a trailing 6% product to a static 10% product. Stop doing that. Compare Classic 10% or Classic 12% to FTMO 2-Step.
The 4% Phase 2 is the quiet E8 advantage. FTMO still wants $5,000 in Phase 2 on $100,000. E8 Classic wants $4,000 and will accept a one-day Phase 2 if you already have the money. The 8% Phase 1 ($8,000) is also less than FTMO's $10,000. Combined hurdle on Classic is 12% versus FTMO's 15%. That is a real reduction, paid for with a customizable max that is often set tighter than 10% by people trying to save on the invoice.
Eight-day first payout and the funded 5-minute news fence
A 40% best-day rule appears on selected E8 on-demand payout tiers. FTMO has no hard mathematical consistency cap on the standard 2-Step. If you need on-demand cash from E8, budget that 40% cap. If you need FTMO Swing news rights, E8's funded 5-minute fence is the reason you would still pay Prague. Personal EAs and risk managers are allowed at E8; HFT, latency arbitrage, and public signal copy-trading are not. FTMO's EA permission is broader across four platforms with the same 2,000-message family of caps in spirit, stated as 2,000 requests per day.
Who should touch the 8% slider, and who should not
Do not pick E8's 8% maximum to save money if you still risk 1% per gold idea. Eight stops and you are done, and the 5% daily may have already fired. If you will use the slider, pick 12% or 14% and keep per-trade risk at 0.40% to 0.55%, the same discipline FTMO needs. Pick E8 Classic when the 8% / 4% targets, one-day minimum, and 8-day first payout are the brief, and you will not cheap out on the max slider. Pick FTMO when you want a non-negotiable static 10%, Swing news and weekend holding, and a ten-year payout file.
Dallas / Prague on E8's HQ line does not make it FTMO. The products share a language (5% daily, floating PnL in the daily formula) and then diverge at Phase 2, at the slider, and at the funded news minute count. Traders who fail E8 Classic usually failed the slider, not the 4% Phase 2.
Two 5% dailies, two flatten prices
If you buy FTMO at 10% static and E8 Classic at 12% static, the daily is still 5% on both, so the guard is still a daily product first. Set Venasri Equity Guard to flatten each login at 4.25% of that account's day-start. If you bought E8 Classic at 8% max, drop that login's max-loss warning to 6.5% so the slider you cheapened cannot be spent in two bad weeks. E8 One gets a separate 3.25% daily / 5% trailing profile. Do not reuse the FTMO 2-Step profile on E8 One.
Venasri's free prop firm risk guard will flatten both books before either 5% daily prints a breach, and Manual Trade Guard covers the E8 funded 5-minute news window so you are not opening into a restricted print from a phone. Prefer E8 when you will actually buy the wider slider and the 4% Phase 2. Prefer FTMO when Swing holding is non-negotiable. The guard does not care which invoice you liked.
