Three 00:00 floor formulas on the same $100,000 account
Initial-balance firms (FTMO 2-Step, FundedNext Stellar 2-Step) compute DailyFloor = $100,000 x (1 - 0.05) = $95,000, whether you are flat or sitting on a $3,800 winner. Balance-anchored firms (E8 Classic, Lark) recompute from closed DayStartBalance, so a $101,200 closed open leaves a $96,140 floor. Equity-anchored firms (FundingPips, The5ers High Stakes, Alpha Capital, BrightFunded, Maven) use DailyFloor = max(DayStartBalance, DayStartEquity) x (1 - DailyLoss%) at the broker 00:00 snapshot.
Worked FundingPips case: closed balance $100,000, open XAUUSD swing +$4,200, DayStartEquity $104,200. The 5% daily allowance is $5,210, so the hard floor is $104,200 - $5,210 = $98,990. If gold mean-reverts $5,215 to $98,985, the account is terminated even though you are only -$1,015 versus initial capital. That is the midnight floating equity trap, not a strategy failure.
How to pick the stricter cut-off before London open
Always compute both the balance floor and the equity floor, then trade against the lower dollar line. On the $104,200 FundingPips snapshot the equity floor ($98,990) is $3,990 tighter than the naive $95,000 initial line. Set Venasri Risk Management & Equity Guard 0.75 percentage points above the stricter floor: $100,000 x 0.0425 = $4,250 of usable daily risk, which is $98,990 + $750 of slippage buffer versus a raw $95,000 misread. On FTMO the same 0.75% buffer is $95,750 of remaining equity, leaving room for a 12-pip XAUUSD stop slip at 1.20 lots.
FundedNext Stellar 1-Step uses 3% daily / 6% max, so the $100,000 initial floor is $97,000 and the Venasri pre-breach lock is $97,750. Do not paste a 5% FTMO number onto a 3% Stellar book. Recalculate every time you change firm, phase, or starting size ($10,000, $50,000, $200,000 all scale linearly: 5% of $10,000 is $500, not $5,000).
Gold, NAS100, and EURUSD dollar distances to the floor
Convert the remaining dollar budget into lots before you click. With $4,250 of FundingPips daily room and a 55-point XAUUSD structural stop at $100 per point per 1.00 lot, maximum size is $4,250 / (55 x $100) = 0.77 lots. Round down to 0.70 lots so one stop is -$3,850 (3.85%), leaving $400 for spread. NAS100 at $1 per point per lot with a 90-point stop: $4,250 / 90 = 47 micro lots, or 0.47 standard CFD lots on most MT5 books. EURUSD at $10 per pip per lot with a 22-pip stop: $4,250 / (22 x $10) = 19.3 lots, which is far too large versus a 0.50% per-trade cap; the risk manager, not the daily floor, should bind first.
Log the planned lot, the dollar stop, and the remaining distance to the Venasri lock in Venasri Performance Analytics after every session. Traders who only glance at percentage drawdown miss the rollover step-up: tomorrow's floor is computed on tonight's peak equity, not on yesterday's memory of $95,000.
Enforcing the calculated floor on live MetaTrader 5
Pair the calculator with the equity versus balance daily loss reset guide and the 00:00 floating equity trap autopsy before you hold a swing through server midnight on FundingPips or The5ers. Recalculate after every partial close, because banking TP1 into closed balance is how you convert a fragile equity floor into a stable FTMO-style initial floor.
