$10 pips on a China-sensitive 100,000 AUD contract
1.00 lot is 100,000 AUD. Quote is USD, so the pip is a round $10.00 per 0.0001, same cash math as EURUSD. The personality is not. ATR is 50 to 75 pips, slightly calmer than euro, and spreads 0.2 to 0.7 pips are friendly during Sydney 00:30 to 04:30 UTC and the NY overlap 12:30 to 16:00 UTC.
00 and 50 figures (0.6650, 0.6700, 0.6750) are the institutional steps. The mistake is treating Aussie as a 24-hour euro cousin. Outside Sydney and NY, the book thins and a 8-pip scalp stop is spread plus noise.
RBA 03:30 UTC, China prints, and metal confirmation
RBA cash-rate days at 03:30 UTC are the local landmine. Australian CPI is next. China stimulus and PBoC headlines move AUD because China is the iron-ore customer. Copper and gold alignment is the extra filter euro does not need: when metals confirm dollar weakness, AUDUSD pullbacks to EMA50 are high quality.
connect your MT5 account to Venasri and black out RBA plus Chinese data even if you trade from New York hours. The 03:30 UTC candle will still be sitting on your daily loss at 12:00 UTC.
Five lots at 20 pips, but only when metals agree
lots = 1000 / (stop pips × 10). At 20 pips that is 5.00 lots for 1%, 2.50 lots for 0.50%. Scalp stops 8 to 12 pips, intraday 16 to 26, swing 40 to 65. If copper is dumping while you buy Aussie on a USD dip, you are in a basis fight, not a trend.
Lock pip value at $10 in the Half-Kelly Lot Size Calculator & Equity Guard and add a metals check before you accept 5.00 lots. A 20-pip stop is honest on a quiet NY afternoon. It is not honest through RBA.
Sydney grind or NY overlap, not the RBA minute
Best trades: Sydney trend continuation 00:30 to 04:30 UTC, or NY overlap pullbacks when gold/copper agree. Skip 03:30 UTC decision minutes. Keep spread under 0.7.
Use the Pre-Trade AI Confluence Checklist to require H4 slope, EMA50 touch, metal confirmation, and a clear RBA calendar. AUDUSD is a pullback pair. It is a terrible surprise-news pair.
