The band covers the click to enter and the click to exit
The rule is stricter than a simple do-not-enter note. You do not open a market or pending order in that band, and you do not close one either. A manual flatten sent as CPI hits can be the prohibited action even if the intention was to save the account. The practical version is to be flat before the band, or to have a resting stop that was placed earlier and then leave the ticket alone until the band has passed.
On $100,000 the challenge day is a fixed $5,000. One standard lot of gold is $10 per 0.10. A 70-pip slip through a planned 50-pip stop is an extra $200 at 1.00 lot and about $290 at 1.45 lots. The band does not cap that slip. Bot controls should stop sending orders before the release, including the helpful ones, and they should have reduced size when the calendar was already red.
8:30 New York is the middle of the day, not the start
The daily reset is 17:00 New York. US CPI and NFP typically land at 8:30 New York, inside a day that has already contained the Asia and London sessions. If those sessions lost $2,200, the news does not arrive with a fresh $5,000. It arrives with $2,800 left, and a single gold wick can finish that remainder. Traders who mark their risk from the cash open are ignoring the clock the firm published.
Because the allowance is fixed to the starting balance, a profitable London morning did not store extra budget for the print either. You can be up $1,500 and still only have the original $5,000 measured from the 17:00 reference, not $5,000 plus the morning. Read the loss from the day's starting line. Sign up on Venasri and put 17:00 New York on the card next to the news list so the two clocks stay in one place.
A resting stop is the protection you are allowed to have already placed
Place the stop while the market is still ordinary. A 50-to-70 pip gold stop at 0.80 to 1.45 lots is a structural plan, and at the wide end it is already about $1,015, a fifth of the day. Into a release, that wide end is a poor default. Cut the lot or be flat. If the stop fills during the print, the dollars count immediately. There is no exclusion for slippage and no refund because the news was scheduled.
The same is true of NAS100 and US30 around 13:30 UTC if a data print is stacked on the cash open. A 100-point stop at $1 per point needs 5.00 lots to risk $500. A gap through it costs more than $500 and still counts. Do not machine-gun modifications during the band trying to chase the stop tighter. Those modifications are closes and opens by another name, and they also press the institutional modification limits.
Arm the account flatten before the band starts
Equity Guard on a $100,000 challenge belongs near $4,250 on an ordinary day. On a news day it has to be ready to act before the two-minute band, because a close sent inside the band collides with the rule that bars closing orders. If you are inside $2,000 of loss at 8:20 New York, flatten then. Do not wait for the number to decide. Weekend holding is allowed, which means a Friday position can still be live for a Monday release. Decide on Friday whether that is a sized swing or an accident.
Classic has no consistency score, so a news winner is not rejected for being large. That freedom is not a reason to be in the print. The static 10% floor and the fixed day still apply, and after you are funded the 10% starts to trail. A jackpot fill that you were not supposed to click can become both a rules problem and the high that later lifts the funded floor. Be flat, or be stopped in advance. Do not negotiate during the minute the number lands.
