Body close versus wick: the BOS test on XAUUSD H1
EURUSD H4 example: swing low 1.08140, close 1.08105 is BOS down; close 1.08142 is not. NAS100 M15: swing high 18,640, body close 18,647 is BOS up even if the next bar fades 20 points, because state already changed. Stops still sit behind the originating swing, not at the BOS print.
Four-timeframe voting: D1 BOS is not an M15 trigger
Internal BOS (inside a range) is stored separately from external BOS (beyond the range high/low). Take-profit logic uses external opposing BOS as TP2/TP3 liquidity, not the first internal close.
Where traders confuse BOS with CHoCH
CHoCH is the first counter-trend internal break after a higher-timeframe zone touch. BOS continues the existing trend. On an H4 downtrend, an M15 close above a minor internal high after tapping an H4 order block is CHoCH, not a new bullish regime. Promoting that print to "the trend flipped" is how traders buy the first dead-cat bounce on NAS100 and donate the 5% daily. See the Change of Character guide for the counter-trend test.
Stops, R-multiple, and Equity Guard after a BOS entry
If BOS fails immediately (close back through the broken swing within two bars), that is a failed BOS: flatten, do not widen. Equity Guard still polls every 3 seconds if you hesitate.
