Oil hours and yen hours are both prime
North America from 12:30 to 16:30 UTC is when WTI, EIA, and the Loonie cash tape are live. Tokyo from 00:00 to 03:00 UTC is when the yen side prints. Together they cover the 75 to 120 pip ATR. London is a bridge, not the home book.
If WTI already trended $2.00 in New York, Tokyo CADJPY often opens with a gap that hunts 108.00, 109.00, or 110.00. That gap is continuation more often than reversal. Fading the Tokyo open against overnight oil is a common funded-account habit that dies on the first M15 close.
Petro-carry math on a $6.70 pip
Pip value is about $6.70. A 1.0 pip spread is $6.70, which is loud on a 12-pip scalp and acceptable on a 25 to 40 pip intraday stop. Swing stops at 60 to 100 pips need the oil thesis to be right for days, not minutes.
If you start free on Venasri, 4.95 lots at a 30-pip stop is 1% of $100,000. Evaluation default is 2.47 lots. Venasri Equity Guard should flatten when EIA and a yen spike hit the same ticket, because that is two event risks on one cross.
OPEC weekends, Wednesday EIA, BoC and BoJ
OPEC+ headlines often land on weekends and gap Sunday CADJPY. Wednesday EIA at 14:30 UTC is a scheduled oil shock inside the New York window. BoC and BoJ add rate shocks on top of the commodity story.
Black out EIA, BoC, and BoJ. If weekend holding is banned, flatten Friday before 21:00 UTC. If you already hold USOIL or USDCAD, you already own part of this oil bet. Correlation Guard should cap the energy-and-yen stack.
CADJPY session gates: oil direction first
Trade 12:30 to 16:30 UTC with WTI agreement, or 00:00 to 03:00 UTC if overnight oil still leads. Require spread under 1.4 pips and a stop beyond the 00 or 50 yen handle. Reject entries that fade a $1.50 crude move with a 12-pip FX stop.
Tick those gates on the AI Pre-Trade Checklist. CADJPY pays the multi-week oil trend. It bills the trader who reads only a yen RSI.
