Tokyo sets the yen, Frankfurt sets the euro
Tokyo from 00:00 to 03:30 UTC is a real EURJPY session because the yen side is awake. European morning from 07:00 to 11:00 UTC is the second window, when euro cash and PMI flow arrive. Together they print most of the 100 to 165 pip ATR before New York even opens.
London-New York still moves the pair, but if you only trade the overlap you are late to the cleanest EMA50 pullbacks. Mark 162.00, 162.50, and 163.00 in Tokyo. Trade the European retest if H4 still agrees.
Yen-pip math with a calmer wick profile than GBPJPY
Pip value is about $6.70 per 0.01 on 1.00 lot, same yen-cross family as USDJPY and GBPJPY. A 0.8 pip spread is $5.36. Intraday stops belong at 30 to 50 pips. Scalps at 15 to 24 pips need Tokyo or Frankfurt depth. Swing stops at 75 to 130 pips already consume a large share of ATR.
If you start free on Venasri, 4.25 lots at a 35-pip stop is 1% of $100,000. Evaluation default is 2.12 lots. Venasri Equity Guard should flatten if ECB and BoJ land in the same week and one ticket has already spent 3%.
Two central banks, one cross
ECB press conferences reprice the euro side. BoJ meetings reprice the yen side. European PMI releases at the Frankfurt open can travel 40 to 70 pips. You do not need US NFP to get run over, though NFP will still hitch a ride through the dollar-yen correlation.
Black out ECB, BoJ, and top-tier European PMI. If GBPJPY or USDJPY is already open, you may already own the yen half. Correlation Guard should cap the yen-cross basket so EURJPY is not a silent third ticket.
EURJPY session gates at yen handles
Trade 00:00 to 03:30 UTC or 07:00 to 11:00 UTC. Require spread under 1.3 pips, H1 EMA50 agreement, and a stop beyond the 00 or 50 yen handle plus 1.5× ATR. Reject policy days and reject stacking on top of a full Dragon book.
Tick those gates on the AI Pre-Trade Checklist. EURJPY pays the cleaner yen-cross pullback. It bills traders who treat it as a low-beta EURUSD.
