Yen conversion on a 100,000 pound notional
1.00 lot is 100,000 GBP. A 0.01 yen pip converts near $6.70, same as USDJPY at typical yen rates (pound/yen via dollar cross). Spread 0.8 to 1.8 pips already consumes a 10-pip idea. ATR 130 to 220 pips is Cable volatility plus yen volatility, not an average of the two.
Handles at 194.00, 195.00, 196.00 are where the bodies print. Tokyo-London 06:00 to 09:30 UTC and London-NY 12:00 to 15:30 UTC are the only windows where a 38 to 65 pip intraday stop has a chance of being structural rather than random.
40-pip M15 candles, BoJ, and equity risk-off
GBPJPY tracks NAS100 beta on risk-off days and BoJ on yen days and BoE on sterling days. You can be right on UK CPI and still get wrecked by a yen spike. Flash-crash style drops have historically chosen this cross because the book is thinner than the majors.
connect your MT5 account to Venasri and cap GBPJPY stops at 1.5× ATR on the entry timeframe so a "normal" 40-pip bar is survived while 3R swings remain possible. A 10-pip stop does not survive normal.
3.31 lots at 45 pips, not 5 lots at 20
lots = 1000 / (stop pips × 6.70). At 45 pips: 1000 / 301.5 = 3.32, stored as 3.31 lots for 1%. At 0.50% that is 1.65 lots. Scalp 18 to 30 pips only after London is open, intraday 38 to 65, swing 95 to 160. Put 6.70 in the Half-Kelly Lot Size Calculator & Equity Guard.
If GBPUSD or USDJPY is already open, this cross is the same two legs. You do not get a third 1.65 lots. Structure the basket first, then pick the cleanest chart.
Trade the transition hours, skip the 10-pip ego stop
Best: 06:00 to 09:30 UTC after UK data has printed, or 12:00 to 15:30 UTC with NY. Require H4, 00/50 yen handles, spread under 1.8, and a 45-pip-class stop. Reject 10-pip templates.
Confirm that on the Pre-Trade AI Confluence Checklist. GBPJPY is a 3R swing cross. It is a terrible 1R scalp on a $100,000 daily limit.
