The Kiwi day starts at 21:30 UTC
Wellington and Sydney from 21:30 to 03:00 UTC are prime time. Local rates, dairy, and China risk print here. New York from 12:30 to 16:00 UTC is the dollar half of the story. Between those windows the pair can trend cleanly on H4, which is why NZDUSD shows fewer false London Judas wicks than GBPUSD.
If your session filter starts at 07:00 UTC, you are trading leftovers. A 48 to 70 pip day may already have spent 30 pips in Wellington before London logs in. Use London only for continuation that still has H4 agreement, not for a fresh fade of Asia.
Wider spread, smaller ATR, $10 pip
Contract is 100,000 NZD, pip value $10.00. A 0.4 to 1.0 pip spread is $4.00 to $10.00 per lot, which is 5% to 12% of an 8-pip scalp stop. That is why Kiwi scalps need a truly open Wellington or New York book. Intraday belongs at 15 to 25 pips. Swing belongs at 40 to 60 pips.
If you start free on Venasri, 5.55 lots at an 18-pip stop is 1% of $100,000. Evaluation default is 2.77 lots. Venasri Equity Guard should treat RBNZ like NFP: the planned 18 pips can become 40 on the statement headline.
RBNZ 02:00 UTC and the dairy auction that is not NFP
RBNZ cash-rate statements near 02:00 UTC sit inside the Asian prime window. That is convenient for local traders and fatal for a New York ticket left on 0.6000 overnight. Global Dairy Trade auctions reprice a real New Zealand export. They do not always light up a US red-folder filter.
Black out RBNZ. If a GDT auction is due, cut size or wait for the print. NZDUSD correlates about 0.88 with AUDUSD, so long Kiwi plus long Aussie is one commodity-dollar book. Split the 0.50% budget or pick one.
Kiwi session gates at 0.60 handles
Trade 21:30 to 03:00 UTC or 12:30 to 16:00 UTC. Require spread under 1.0 pip, H4 persistence, and a stop beyond 0.6000, 0.6050, or 0.6100. Reject RBNZ windows and reject a second Oceania ticket if AUDUSD already uses the risk line.
Park those gates on the AI Pre-Trade Checklist. NZDUSD pays directional H4 structure. It bills the London fade of a completed Wellington trend.
