$10 pips on a thinner 100,000 NZD contract
1.00 lot is 100,000 NZD quoted in USD, so the pip is $10.00, same cash as AUDUSD. Liquidity is not the same. Spreads 0.4 to 1.0 pips mean a 8-pip stop spends 5% to 12% in friction. ATR 48 to 70 pips is compact, which is why the 1% reference uses an 18-pip stop and 5.55 lots rather than Aussie's 20-pip 5.00 lots.
Figures at 0.6000, 0.6050, 0.6100 are magnets. Wellington/Sydney 21:30 to 03:00 UTC is the home book. NY 12:30 to 16:00 UTC is the second chance when USD flow arrives.
RBNZ 02:00 UTC and dairy auctions
RBNZ cash-rate statements at 02:00 UTC are the local bomb. Dairy trade auctions move the terms of trade and can trend Kiwi for days without a US headline. London does less damage here than on GBPUSD; the Kiwi trap is overnight New Zealand, not the 07:00 UTC Judas.
connect your MT5 account to Venasri and black out RBNZ even if you only trade NY hours. The gap will still be in the open P&L when you sit down at 12:30 UTC.
5.55 lots at 18 pips, half that if Aussie is open
lots = 1000 / (stop pips × 10). At 18 pips: 5.56 lots, stored as 5.55. At 0.50% that is 2.77 lots. Scalp 8 to 12 only in Wellington depth, intraday 15 to 25, swing 40 to 60. The Half-Kelly Lot Size Calculator & Equity Guard should haircut Kiwi when AUDUSD is already on, because 0.88 correlation makes 5.55 plus 5.00 a 1% China/USD bet dressed as two trades.
If spread is over 1.0 pip, you do not have an 18-pip stop. You have a 16-pip stop plus 2 pips of broker tax. Skip or widen, then relot.
Wellington or NY, not a Cable-style London hunt
Trade 21:30 to 03:00 UTC trend or NY USD follow-through. Require H4 persistence, 00/50 figures, spread under 1.0, RBNZ clear. Do not import a 06:45 UTC Cable filter that does not apply.
Save that on the Pre-Trade AI Confluence Checklist. NZDUSD is a swing-friendly dollar that still kills evaluations at 02:00 UTC.
