If COMEX is closed, silver is a spread trap
XAGUSD prints 24 hours on CFDs, but industrial and monetary silver share the COMEX open. From 12:25 to 16:00 UTC the 65 to 110 pip ATR ($0.65 to $1.10) actually has depth. London can start the move, yet the honest expansion is New York.
Asian silver is where funded accounts die quietly. Depth is poor, 1.8 to 3.2 pip quotes become 5 to 7 pips, and the London raid of the Asian box is faster than gold because the book is thinner. Map 31.00, 31.50, and 32.00 overnight. Trade them after 12:25 UTC.
The $50 tick makes a 2-pip spread expensive
One lot is 5,000 ounces. Each $0.01 is $50.00. A 2.5 pip spread is $125.00 per lot before price moves. That is why silver scalps of 12 to 20 pips are a last resort even in COMEX hours. Intraday wants 25 to 45 pips. Swing wants 65 to 110 pips, which is a full ATR.
If you start free on Venasri, do not paste a gold 1.45 lot onto silver. At 1% of $100,000 a 30-pip ($0.30) stop is 0.66 lots. Evaluation default is 0.33. Venasri Equity Guard should treat a 1.00 lot silver loser as an emergency, because $50 per pip eats $5,000 in 100 pips.
CPI hits silver harder than the calendar font size suggests
US CPI and NFP reprice real yields and the dollar, so silver follows gold, then often overshoots. A gold $12 day can be a silver $0.80 to $1.10 day, which is the entire ATR. China industrial headlines add a second shock that gold may ignore.
Black out CPI and NFP. If gold is already open, silver is high-beta gold. Split one metals budget. A "hedge" that is long both metals is 1.6× the same bet.
Silver session gates: COMEX clock, gold alignment, $0.50 handles
Trade 12:25 to 16:00 UTC. Require spread under 3.5 pips, gold H4 agreement, and a stop beyond the $0.50 handle. Reject Asia entries and reject silver if gold has already posted a 300-pip day, because the catch-up is late and violent.
Put those gates on the AI Pre-Trade Checklist. Silver pays when the metals book is open. It bills traders who treat a $50 tick like a $10 gold pip during Tokyo.
