The peak is the breach, not the close price
Start with $3,000 of trail room under $100,000. NQ shows +$2,200 open. The threshold walks up by that peak. You exit at +$100, still a winner on the fill, and about $900 of room is what the example leaves. Traders who only screenshot closed P&L miss it. The firm marked the high while the trade was alive. A static floor would have ignored that high. This floor does not.
Daily loss is still 2.5%, $2,500. You can be inside $2,500 of closed loss and outside the trail. Read both. Equity Guard at $1,750 catches a losing day on an MT5 mirror. It does not automatically know that open profit already moved an Apex trail. After a spike, flatten earlier than the guard if the remaining trail is under $1,000.
4:59 PM ET is the rollover people misname
FX habits look for a 00:00 snapshot that rebases the next day off floating equity. Apex futures must be flat before 4:59 PM ET, so there is no legal overnight float for a Sunday gap to tax. The hidden failure is being "almost flat" at 4:58 with a working order still live, or holding because the trade needs ten more minutes. The close is the rule. The trail is the other rule, and it has already done its work by then.
A 5:1 stop-to-target breach is quieter. An 80-point stop with a 10-point target is 8:1. The trade can be green and still be a violation. Manual Trade Guard can hold the original distances on MT5. On Tradovate you set them at the fill and stop editing. Quote-to-order limits make the edit spree its own problem during the same afternoon.
The PA lock and the per-trade cap
On a Performance Account the trail follows the peak until it locks at the initial balance plus $100. On $100K that is $100,100. Before the lock, every new high tightens the room. After the lock, the floor stops chasing. People fail in the week before the lock because they trade full size into a moving floor. The daily-loss basis also names a 30% maximum negative PnL per trade on PA accounts. Confirm the base before a single contract is allowed to lose "whatever the day allows."
The 30% consistency rule at payout is a third trap for profitable traders. A day that is more than 30% of the profit balance can block the withdrawal after you survived the trail. Bot Control will not compute that share on Rithmic. You stop adding when the day is already near $1,500 on a $6,000 profit goal.
Three numbers to read after every push
Read open profit versus the trail, distance to $2,500 of daily loss, and the clock versus 4:50 PM ET. If open profit is large, take the partial before the giveback marks a new peak you will regret. If open loss approaches $1,750, exit. If the clock is near the close, exit even if the target is close. Seven evaluation days mean you can come back tomorrow. A trail breach means you cannot.
Create a free Venasri account and label the card with 4:59 PM ET, not with an FX midnight. Semi-automated assistants may help. Unattended bots may not run the PA. The 100% split on the first $25,000 is collected by accounts that never let an unrealized high become the floor they later trip.
