Higher-of midnight plus a 3% Lightning knife
Dual Step daily: 4% of initial ($4,000 on $100K) from H = max(balance, equity) at 00:00 ThinkMarkets. Floor = H minus $4,000. Lightning daily: H minus $3,000. Both count live equity. A +$2,200 gold float at 23:59 raises H, raises the floor, and turns Thursday's giveback into a daily breach. Lightning has $1,000 less air than Dual Step every single snapshot. That is the whole 1-step tax.
Start a free Venasri account and run two columns for five midnights: Dual Step floor and Lightning floor on the same H. If you cannot say the Lightning number without looking, you are not ready to size ThinkTrader gold on Lightning.
Worked example: three 1% days versus a 6% EOD trail
Lightning $100K. Day 1 close $99,000 (minus 1%). Trail 6% of peak (peak still $100,000) sits at $94,000. Day 2 close $97,900. Day 3 you start at $97,900, daily floor $94,900 (H minus $3,000, and H is $97,900 if flat). You lose another $1,100 to $96,800. Daily survived. EOD trail still $94,000. You feel fine. Day 4 a winner to $101,200. EOD trail steps up toward $95,128. Day 5 a $2,400 loser to $98,800. Daily OK. Then you remember best-day cap on Lightning: the $3,300 winner you needed on day 6 to finish 8% might be too large a share of the cycle.
The practical Lightning plan is 0.35% risk ($350) and a 2.25% Venasri Equity Guard. Dual Step can live at 0.50% risk and 3.25% Guard. Mixing those two lot sizes is the calculator error.
ThinkTrader click that MT5 Guard never saw
You flatten in Venasri on MT5, then re-enter on ThinkTrader because the chart looks cleaner. That ticket has no Manual Trade Guard and no lot cap until ZeroMQ sees it, if it ever does. Lightning's 3% is $3,000. A 1.4 lot NAS100 market order can spend $3,000 in a minute. 24/7 MT5 Bot Control cannot save a platform it is not connected to. Pick MT5 or pick a ThinkTrader connection. Not both unsupervised.
Funded 2-minute news window: if you are at minus 2.6% on Dual Step at 13:28 GMT with CPI at 13:30, you cannot legally close inside the window and you cannot legally open a hedge. Guard must already be at 3.25% so the flatten happened at minus 3.25%, before the window, not at minus 3.9% during it.
Clock, trail, and the ThinkMarkets bridge
Set the ZeroMQ MT5 Bridge reset to ThinkMarkets 00:00 (GMT+2/GMT+3). Dual Step Guard 3.25% daily, 7.0% static max. Lightning Guard 2.25% daily, 5.0% EOD trail of closed peak, plus a remaining-air halt when trail air is under $1,500 on $100K. Nexus uses Dual Step daily/max family; do not give it Lightning's 2.25% unless you enjoy over-flattening a slower product.
Log EOD peak on Lightning every day. If you cannot point at today's trail dollar, you are trading a 3% daily and guessing the 6%. Guessing is how three small days become a closed Lightning certificate.
