The stop belongs to the entry, not to the next thought
Manual traders on MT5 and on ThinkTrader often send the market order first and the stop second. Gold does not wait for the second click. A 1.00 lot position that travels $3 against you before the stop exists is already down about $300. At 1.45 lots that same $3 is about $435. The connection should place the protective stop as part of the fill, using the distance you wrote down when the cash risk was still $500 or less.
ThinkTrader, with TradingView charts built in, and MT5 share one 2,000-message day. Attaching a stop, a breakeven, and a handful of partials is a small message count. Dragging the stop on every tick afterward is how the ceiling disappears. Bot controls can perform the attachment and then stay quiet. An EA still needs the add-on on Dual Step, Nexus, and especially on Lightning, where automation is blocked until that add-on exists.
Breakeven after the first partial, then three more targets
Once price reaches the first partial, close a portion and move the stop to breakeven plus a small buffer so the remainder cannot turn the winner into a loser. Then stage the rest of the position across three further targets. Four partials in total keep you from needing a perfect final target. On a $500 risk, a 2R first target is about $1,000 of open profit on the full size. Banking a third of it and protecting the rest is how a Dual Step week actually accumulates the $8,000 Phase 1 figure.
The partials have to respect the product. Dual Step has no best-day cap, so a large realized day is acceptable inside the 4% loss line. Lightning does have a best-day cap, so automatically closing the entire runner into one giant green day can create a consistency problem the automation was not asked to solve. Cap the session profit you are willing to realize on Lightning, and let Dual Step bank the planned partials without that extra brake.
The ThinkMarkets clock still outranks the chart clock
Daily loss resets at 00:00 ThinkMarkets server time, GMT+2 or GMT+3, from the higher of day-start balance or equity. A protected runner that is $2,500 ahead at 23:50 can still lift the next day base if you leave it open. The stop attachment saved you from a naked entry. It does not decide whether midnight should inherit the float. Partial before the snapshot when the open gain is large relative to the $4,000 day.
On a funded account the two minutes before and after a red-folder print are restricted for opens and closes. A partial that fires inside that window can be a prohibited close even though the original stop was legal. Keep automated closes out of that band after the account is funded. During the evaluation the news trade itself is allowed, and the stop still has to assume a wide fill. A 50-pip gold plan that fills at 150 pips on 1.00 lot costs about $1,500, not $500.
The ticket stop and the account flatten do different jobs
The ticket stop limits one idea. Equity Guard limits the day. On $100,000 Dual Step, flatten the account near $3,250 even if each remaining stop is individually legal. Three correlated gold stops at $500 are $1,500 of planned risk and can slip together during COMEX. Lightning should flatten near $2,250 against its $3,000 day. The end-of-day 6% trail on Lightning is a third job: recompute it after a higher close so the intraday guard is not the only floor you are watching.
Sign up on Venasri and connect the ThinkCapital MT5 or ThinkTrader login before you rely on memory to place the stop. Store the cash unit, the partial schedule, and the product name together. A setup that attaches protection in the same second as the fill is the difference between a $500 plan and a $3 travel that never had a number on it.
