100,000 euros, $10 a pip, and why this pair is the sizing benchmark
One standard lot of EURUSD is 100,000 euros. Quote is USD, pip is 0.0001, so pip value is $10.00 per 1.00 lot (and $1.00 per 0.10 lot). A 50-pip swing is $500 per lot. This is the contract every other pair is compared against, which is why traders wrongly assume USDJPY and USDCAD are also $10.
Typical raw prop spread is 0.1 to 0.6 pips. Daily ATR is 55 to 85 pips. That combination is why EURUSD can support a 8 to 14 pip scalp stop during London, and why the same stop is suicide at 21:00 UTC when the book rolls. Depth is a session property, not a symbol property.
Frankfurt open, London-NY overlap, and the 16:00 fix
Danger is ECB press conferences, US CPI/NFP, and the 16:00 UTC WM fix, when banks warehouse flow and the pair can print a 30 to 50 pip line with no pullback. connect your MT5 account to Venasri and black out 30 minutes around those stamps instead of "fading the spike" into empty liquidity.
Five lots at 20 pips is 1%, not a flex
Formula: lots = 1000 / (stop pips × 10). A 20-pip stop yields 5.00 lots at 1% of $100,000. A 0.50% evaluation default is 2.50 lots at the same stop. An 8-pip scalp stop would allow 12.50 lots at 1%, which looks clever until a 12-pip London wick is normal noise.
Keep scalp stops in the 8 to 14 pip band, intraday 18 to 30, swing 45 to 75. Feed the chosen distance into the Half-Kelly Lot Size Calculator & Equity Guard. If you are also short USDCHF, you already have the EURUSD bet on. Cut the euro lot, do not add the franc as "diversification."
Trade the overlap, skip the fix
Best EURUSD execution is a closed M15 confirmation at a 00 or 50 figure during 07:00 to 10:00 or 12:00 to 15:30 UTC, spread under 0.6 pips, H4 slope with you. Flatten or tighten before 16:00 UTC if you are not a fixing desk.
Tick those conditions on the Pre-Trade AI Confluence Checklist. EURUSD pays for patience at the level. It fines traders who use depth as an excuse to oversize into ECB.
