0.35% survives a bad morning, and 0.65% does not
The hard daily loss on $100,000 is $2,200. At $350, which is 0.35%, six full stops are $2,100 and the seventh is $2,450. You get a grim morning and then you are done. At $650, which is 0.65%, the third stop is $1,950 and the fourth is the breach. If the goal was a long string of losers before the firm steps in, only the low end of the band even approaches that, and it still fails on stop number seven.
A practical middle is $500, half of 1%. Four of those are $2,000, leaving $200 for slippage, and the fifth is through. That is the unit used on the sizing pages. The 3% trail, $3,000, is looser than the day, so the day is the limit this band has to respect. Bot controls should reject a ticket whose cash risk is above the number you picked before the open.
Translate $350 into points before you pick the contract
E-mini Nasdaq is $20 a point, so a $350 stop is 17.5 points on one NQ, which most traders will not sit through on a cash-open idea. Two MNQ at $2 a point need about 87 points to risk $348. One MES at $5 a point needs 70 points to risk $350. Pick the contract whose normal stop matches the dollars, instead of picking the contract and then widening the stop until the chart looks right.
The same dollars on MT5 are about 1.75 lots of a major with a 20-pip stop, or 0.70 lots of gold with a 50-pip stop, at $10 per pip or per 0.10 gold move on 1.00 lot. A 1.00 gold lot on that stop is $500, already the middle of the band. Do not run that gold ticket and an NQ ticket as two small ideas. They often pay and lose together.
PRO counts the open loss, so the stop price can be late
On the Test the 3% trail updates at 5:00 PM ET, and the hard day still counts the worst damage. On PRO the trail follows live equity until the buffer is built. A $350 stop that has not filled yet can already show $300 of open loss. If you are in several of those, the intraday trail and the $2,200 day can both be in play before any stop is official.
That is why a planned stop and a live flatten are different tools. The stop belongs on the ticket. The flatten belongs on the account. Size so that two open index ideas, added together, still sit under $700 or so. A third correlated idea is how a 0.35% plan becomes a 1% plan without a single ticket looking large.
Flatten the day at $1,450 no matter which edge you chose
Equity Guard on $100,000 should cut the book near $1,450. From there you still have $750 before $2,200, which is about two of the $350 ideas or one of the $650 ideas. Traders who set the guard at $2,200 are using the firm print as their exit. Traders who set it at $650 are flattening after a single wide stop and will never see a normal Test through five days.
On $50,000 the day is $1,100, so the same 0.35% is $175 and the guard belongs near $725. On $150,000 the day is $3,300, so 0.35% is $525 and the guard belongs near $2,175.
