The first minutes of the cash open are not the entry
The New York cash open is 13:30 UTC, 9:30 AM ET. The first 15 minutes regularly run both the premarket high and the premarket low before a direction exists. A scalp placed into that candle is a fill in search of a stop. The workable window starts once that whip has settled, closer to 13:45 UTC, with a 60 to 100 point stop behind a real swing rather than behind the opening print.
US30 is the wider sibling. Its typical day runs hundreds of points, so a 60-point stop is a smaller slice of noise than the same 60 points on Nasdaq. A Dow stop that is only there to look tight will get tagged and then the real move starts. Use the 60 to 100 point band as a minimum structure, and widen toward the upper end on US30 when the opening range is already larger than 100 points. Bot controls should simply be off until the open has settled.
Point stops become dollars only after you name the contract
Nasdaq E-mini is $20 a point. Micro Nasdaq is $2. A 100-point stop is $2,000 or $200. Two micros at 100 points are $400. Four micros at 60 points are $480, near the $500 unit. Dow E-mini is $5 a point, so one contract at 100 points is $500 exactly, and at 60 points it is $300. Micro Dow is $0.50 a point, so a 100-point stop is $50 and ten micros equal the $500 unit.
Scalpers who think in CFD dollars, $1 a point, will oversize a futures book by a factor of twenty on Nasdaq. A 5-lot CFD habit at $1 a point and a 100-point stop is $500. The same 5 contracts of E-mini are $10,000 of risk on that stop, four times the daily line. Convert before the click. The platforms are Tradovate, NinjaTrader, and TradingView, and all three will happily accept the wrong contract.
The open is also where message efficiency goes to die
CME message-efficiency limits apply to disclosed bots and to humans who cancel and replace like bots. The cash open produces the most edits, because the stop feels wrong every three seconds. Place the structural stop once. If it is wrong, close the trade. Do not drag it through the whip. Four partials after the move is underway are a normal bracket. Forty edits during the first minute are a review.
The 30 percent consistency rule is the other open trap. A clean trend day that you scalp in eight pieces can still book $2,400, and that day can raise a $6,000 target toward $8,000. Stopping for the session once you are up about $1,500 is a scalper's rule as much as a swing trader's rule. Create a Venasri login and put a session profit ceiling next to the contract cap.
Flatten before the second contract finishes the day
Set Equity Guard at $1,750 on $100,000. One E-mini that slips from a 100-point planned stop toward 120 points is $2,400 and should already have been impossible because the planned risk was too big. The guard is for the micro position that gets added to, not for blessing a $2,000 initial risk. On an intraday trail, two E-minis giving back 75 points are the entire $3,000 maximum. Do not hold that inventory.
Be flat before 4:00 PM CT. An index scalp does not become a swing because it is working at 3:40 PM CT. Funded news blackouts still apply when a 12:30 UTC release and the 13:30 UTC open land in the same hour. If you are flat for the release, you can still wait out the open. Those are two different waits, and both of them are cheaper than a single 100-point E-mini.
