The close is 4:00 PM CT, every session, not only Friday
The overnight rule is a daily flat, not a special Friday favor. Positions come off before the CME session close at 4:00 PM CT. Friday is simply the version with the most hours attached, because the next open is Sunday. A Thursday hold into the evening is the same class of mistake with a shorter gap. There is no swing add-on in this rule set that turns the futures book into a multi-day hold.
Traders who come from a spot desk expect triple-swap Wednesday and a midnight server roll. This desk marks the day at the CME close in Central Time. If your platform still shows a position at 4:05 PM CT, the rule has already been missed. Open a Venasri account and set the flat alarm for Central Time, not for the clock on a laptop that is still on Eastern or UTC.
The gap is priced in contract dollars, not in hope
A 40-point gap on one E-mini is $800. On two E-minis it is $1,600, most of a $2,500 day, before Monday's first decision. A micro Nasdaq at $2 a point turns that same 40-point gap into $80 per contract. The flat rule is how you avoid learning the gap price. If you violate it, the smaller contract is the only reason the account might still be alive at the reopen.
The daily loss does not reset because the gap happened over a weekend. It counts in the session that inherits the position. The maximum, $3,000 on $100,000, is close behind the day. A gap that spends $2,500 leaves $500 of lifetime room if you somehow keep the account. That is not a swing plan. Bot controls should refuse new risk after a cutoff you set ahead of 4:00 PM CT, such as 3:30 PM CT, so the exit is not fighting the close.
An open winner into the close can ratchet the trail
On the intraday trailing contract, the $3,000 floor follows the equity high. A large Friday winner that you intended to hold is already walking the floor up, and the flat rule says you should not hold it anyway. Closing it banks the gain and stops the trail from inheriting a high you will not be allowed to manage over the weekend. On the end-of-day trail, the 4:00 PM CT mark is when the floor can step. Being flat means the mark sees closed profit, which is the number you actually own.
Static drawdown does not chase the high, and it still requires the flat. A static floor at $97,000 on a $100,000 start will forgive more of a later giveback, and it will not forgive a weekend position the rules already banned. The drawdown choice and the flat rule are separate. You can be perfect on one and finished on the other.
Use the flatten as a backstop for a late fill
Equity Guard at $1,750 on $100,000 stops a Friday afternoon that goes wrong $750 before the $2,500 day. It does not replace the flat. A winner can sit inside the guard and still be illegal after 4:00 PM CT. Schedule the exit first. Let the guard catch the case where the exit order is late or the market runs while you are clicking.
The 30 percent consistency rule is the other Friday trap. Adding size into the last hour to finish the week is how a $1,200 day becomes a $2,400 day and raises the profit target. Leave the last hour alone if the day is already your best day. The CME close is a time to be flat, not a time to discover a new setup.
