0.80 lots and 1.45 lots are a range, not a suggestion to use the top
Gold pays $10 per 0.10 price move on 1.00 lot, which is $100 per $1. A 50-pip stop at 0.80 lots is $400. The same stop at 1.45 lots is $725. Stretch the stop to 70 pips and those risks become $560 and $1,015. The $500 half-percent unit sits near 1.00 lot at 50 pips, or about 0.71 lots at 70 pips. The top of the published cap is already above half a percent. It is a ceiling for a wick, not the default click.
A $35 daily range is 350 pips. Riding that range with no stop at 1.45 lots is about $5,075, more than twice the $2,500 day. Even 0.80 lots across a full $35 range is about $2,800, still through the day. The stop is the strategy. The lot cap is what keeps a 70-pip idea from being the whole session by itself. Bot controls should reject a gold order above 1.45 lots and reject a second metal ticket while the first is open.
The COMEX open is where the planned stop stops being the loss
The violent gold prints cluster around the COMEX open, near 12:20 UTC, and again when US data hits near 12:30 UTC. A 70-pip stop that fills 120 pips away at 1.45 lots costs about $1,740. That is most of a $2,500 day in one ticket. At 0.80 lots the same bad fill is about $960. The lower lot is how a wick stays a bad trade instead of a dead evaluation.
Funded accounts also owe a 2-minute blackout around Tier-1 releases. Gold is the instrument most likely to be open when CPI hits because the spread looked tight a minute earlier. Flat means flat. A stop left in the market is a market order with a delay. The fill counts against the 2.5 percent day immediately, and the consistency rule will also score the winner if the wick goes your way and books more than about $1,800 of a $6,000 target.
If the live book is futures, convert the lot into the contract you can actually hold
TradeDay executions sit on Tradovate, NinjaTrader, and TradingView. The 0.80 to 1.45 lot band is the MT5-shaped translation of the dollar risk. On the futures book you still owe $1,015 or less at the top of that band, and preferably $500. Micro gold, if your platform offers it, should be counted until the cash stop matches the unit. An E-mini Nasdaq sympathy trade added because gold is moving is a second bet on the same dollar story.
The maximum is $3,000, static, end-of-day, or intraday. An intraday trail makes a gold winner dangerous: a $1,500 open high that round-trips spends half of the trail while you are adjusting a 1.45 lot position. Static leaves the floor alone and still charges the $2,500 day if the round trip happens before 4:00 PM CT. Open a Venasri account and store the lot cap next to the drawdown style, because the style decides whether the open high is already a liability.
Flatten the day before the wick uses it
Set Equity Guard at $1,750 on $100,000. A 1.45 lot position that slips from a $1,015 planned loss toward $1,740 should meet the flatten while the account still exists. If you are at the 0.80 lot end, the same guard is a backstop rather than the expected exit. Either way the guard is not permission to skip the stop.
Be flat before 4:00 PM CT. Gold can gap on the reopen, and this firm does not want the position held through the CME close. A 1.45 lot idea that you love at 3:50 PM CT is an overnight bet the rules already declined. Close it. The $6,000 target is a series of stopped gold trades, not one range you decided to sit through.
